Ask Greer: Looking at your site, I discovered that this year (2014) I am in a 18-9 personal year. (My birthday is August 3) Gulp. I read that the 9 personal year can be a rough time. Can you tell me more about it? I am struggling with trying to figure out what to do next in my life.—Jeannie
Greer: Hi Jeannie, before answering your question, lets take a look at what the personal year means in numerology. Your personal year changes every year because it is the sum of your birthday month and day to the current year. Adding these numbers together, will give you the theme of what to expect this year in your life. So yes, adding 8+3+2+0+1+4 adds up to 18. (1+8=9). You are in a very auspicious 9 year, because it is an 18-9 personal year.
Do not despair! I certainly have had many 9 personal years like you are describing above. It is not the easiest. But it is also about transformation and often when we can look at it as the lessons of what we want and don’t want in our lives, it can be helpful. Just hold on tight and relax a bit, knowing it too will pass.
As an example, in my last nine year several years ago, I was at a job that was getting more and more stressful and burdensome. I knew it was time to leave. I saw a coach and talked to anyone who would listen to me:) Finally I came to the decision that I was more important to my life than my job. And in my 1 year I did leave. Now I have a full time practice as numerologist, artist, and body worker. I am still growing.. I see myself as always growing. But the lesson I learned in my 9 year was to love myself and to find supportive people to help me if I was struggling.
The 18-9 Personal Year
Let’s talk about the 18-9 personal year. Numerologically, 1 represents new beginnings and ideas (a new path) while eight is about power, abundance and success. Together they equal 9 which is transformation. So it is a pivotal time to look at your life, discard what you no longer need and celebrate the essence of you!

The Meaning of Ch’ai and 18
The number 18 is considered auspicious in many spiritual practices. In Hebrew the word for 18 (Ch’ai) means “life”. The Ch’ai is often a symbol of strength, hope and good luck in Judaism. The Hebrew word, Ch’ai (see Hebrew word above), is a combination of two letters of the Hebrew alphabet. The pronunciation is a soft “ch” like you are clearing your throat and then “ai is like “I”. Yud is the first part. It looks a little like an apostrophe. “According to the gematria, which is a mystical tradition that assigns a numerological value to Hebrew letters, the letters Het (ח) and Yud (י) add up to the number 18. The Het has a value of 8 and the yud has a value of 10. As a result, 18 is a popular number that represents good luck.” http://judaism.about.com/od/judaismbasics/g/chai.htm
Traditionally, Jews give gifts of money at weddings, bar mitzvahs and other special events in multiples of 18, symbolically giving the recipient the gift of “life” or luck.” The symbol is often worn around the neck as a necklace.

Hello Simon, I relate! I remember my 9 year, (two years ago) It seemed like everything I knew was changing. But then I noticed that if I kept present, I can bravely move to the next journey. It sounds like you are finding support, and new energy, for your next step, as well as happiness for the adventure. It is really a time of transformation if you accept change. If we do not, we will repeat the same pattern. Many blessings to you, Greer
