Ask Greer: When does the personal year begin? I’ve always calculated my personal years from birthday to birthday mostly because my birthday is toward the end of the regular year. I am curious how you interpret it. My birthday is 10/8/56. —Gina
Greer: Hi Gina, this is a very common question! People ask me all the time – “when does my personal year begin according to numerology?”
Some numerologists go birthday to birthday, but I calculate the personal year beginning when the year changes. It sort of makes sense, because to find your personal year (or theme and lesson of the year), you add the month and day of your birthday to the year. So when the year changes, your personal year theme changes.
Gina, to find out your personal year you add your month and day to the current year.
So in 2016, add like this:
1+0+8+2+0+1+6 = 18/9.
The 9 personal year is the theme of transformation and completion. Around your birthday time (October 8) it has the most powerful emphasis, so it would be a powerful time to meditate on what you want in your life, especially looking at your personal year theme. Hello I also believe personal years run from birthday to birthday. The other method just doesn’t make sense to me and doesn’t resonate with the themes I’ve experienced in 2023. My birthday is in two weeks and I should start my personal year 5.

I also feel the same thing as Jordan above. No matter what mathematics and science say, to me, the personal year starts on my birthday. I was born on October 20th, 1987. So I should be in a personal year 6, but I’m feeling more the personal year 5 energy right now. I’ll stick to my gut feeling, and keep calculating it this way.

Hi Davy, I understand what you are saying, it is often that you feel last year, this year and next year interweaving with each other, especially when your birthday comes in October. In my view, it is logical to add month and day to the current year not the nxst year or the previous year. But for instance, I am in an eight year. I am feeling some of the seven as a bit inside and contemplating. But I am also dealing with how I relate to the world and my career.. Not always easy as the positive and the shadow of being in my power come into play. And next year, oh boy, dealing with transformation, yikes! For you, yes, you will feel lots of change (5) and movement, but I wonder if you also are feeling change in relationships and heart and love, even loss. Up to you, of course, what you would like to believe in.

Hi Neli, the way I do numerology is to look at when the year turns, that is when the personal year them turns. So November 16, in 2018 would be as follows. 1+1+1+6+2+0+1+8=20. You are in a 2 year all year. This is the year of relationships in every way, be it personal, romantic or career wise. It might be a poignant year to look at the relationship you have with yourself. I have a hard time thinking that my personal year would start in January with my birthday December 12. I’ve studied and looked back through my life through calculations according to the birthday to birthday method, and that seems to make the most sense subjectively by themes of the year. For example… this year by all accounts of Jan 1st- Dec 31st method would put me at a personal year 7, but I have been moving into a new house, and then redecorating, and then literally moved again to another new house in another country, redecorating this house, and still trying to find the ground that is comfortable and works well for my family. This month is a personal month 7 for me, and only now have I found the time to get quiet with myself. But all the rest of the time, all my energy goes to taking care of my 1 year old daughter and trying to stay happy with my husband (lol). I think I need to learn more about the transit and essence numbers, maybe that will help iron out some of these discrepancies! If the case is that I am indeed in my 7 year, I feel like it was wasted because I got no time at all to explore my spiritual proclivities beyond the norm….

I understand your consideration and I have heard many say the same thing.. But actually the calculation is mathematical and scientific!
The personal year changes when the year to date changes.. there is no way around that!!!!
So December 12…
1+2+1+2+2+0+1+7 = 16. you are in a 7 year all year. Now when your birthday comes around it is a pivotal time for you in a 7 mode..
So lets talk more about the seven personal year.. 7.. yes is about connecting inside to find answers and seeking out the unknown.. yes it can be a quiet and spiritual time for some and also a time when things seem to be in slow motion especially frustrating being in a 7 energy when there is need for you to take action!!! So you are slipping and sliding all over the place and can feel like you really would like to be left alone and meditate.. Not always the case!!! Understand the energy is just energy and what happens in real life might not meet up to that energy.
So your “and still trying to find the ground that is comfortable and works well for my family. ” makes a lot of sense.. Seven environment is not very grounding!! It might feel like you are in a bubble and not sure how to get out!!! Each personal year theme has its spark and its shadow… so sometimes, for example, you might want some quiet time, yet you find life chaotic.. and the 7 does not do well in chaos.. The 7 energy would much rather take a walk in nature and be left alone!!! So my suggestion for you and everyone in a 7 personal year is to DO THAT! Find a time just for yourself.. Try to find that time every day. Take a walk in nature.. AND nurture self.. draw, journal or listen to music.. If your child is around.. make them understand this is mommies alone time.. Or if you are sole provider of her during the day.. take her with you on your walk.. carry her on your back.. something like that… Many blessings, and the good news is next year you will be in an 8 year which is all about abundance. I have a question regarding personal years starting in January. I went through a 4 personal year last year. It was horrible, and now in my 5 personal year in January, I still feel no relief. When will the 5 year kick in?
Ah, 2017 is just beginning. The thing to know about the personal year in 2017. Is that it is the year of the 1. Just in case you did not notice, it is about new beginnings in a profound way.. (lol the new president) . So everyone is going through a new way of looking at their lives. It is profound.. I know it is for me. So in a 5 year, it is all about change, all about action and connecting with people. You can make a move towards how can I do things different that will make my life more passionate, more fun. Or you can stay quiet and not move and feel life is just passing you by. This is the time to take action in your life and shift any negative beliefs you have about your life and your journey.
